APRS

The global positioning satellites afford the ability to dynamically identify one's location. With your 2 meter handheld hooked up to your computer through a TNC (a modem for your radio), some shareware availible here, you can watch all the activity as if you were NORAD! To get an idea on how this works, you have to check out http://www.aprs.net/. The frquency to tune into around La Cañada is 145.790.

Repeaters

JPL's Repeater List

Repeaters allow your tiny 5 watt hand held radio to communicate well beyond its normal capabilities. In 1976 the Pasadena Repeater system was started by Bill Cronkhite K6QQN and Marsh Hall K6MEF. This was to provide an open repeater system for the Pasadena, La Cresenta and La Canada area. Since they use different offsets and Squelch tones, you should program your radio ahead. Here are a few in the area:
