!MARR: Certif. of the State of Maine. Married by J. M. Remick of So. Portland. The certificate spells his last name "THIELE." The last "E" was dropped sometime between his marriage and his death. (1911/1931). This is reportedly done to make the name sound more English than German during the time of post-war predudice...

!Was listed as an electrician on his marriage certificate, then as a "Battery man" on his death certificate. Margaret K. Dutka Thiel, daughter in law, has photographs of him as a wireless operator in 1908-1911 in Portland ME. Also has a baby photo of him taken at Georg Brokesch in Leipzig. He registered for the draft 5 JUN 1917 in Staton Island, NY. According to her and others, his second wife was named "Kitty" and was the one who gave her the photos.
