INDEX
Notes
!According to the "History of Bethel" (p.40) James Swan, son of Joshua
SWAN of Methuen and a descendant of Robert SWAN of Boston and Rowley,
Married Mary Smith, moved from Fryeburg to Sudbury Canada in 1779. He
came to the "wilds of Maine" fleeing from an incident where he with two
others were impressed into the British navy and joined them to force the
captain to drop them off in Boston (This is before the revolutionary war,
of coarse). He was also described as a friend of Sabattis, the famous
Piquaket indian who lived with him.
